Richland Center, Wisconsin (pop. 5,000). The City of Richland Center is currently seeking a professional City Administrator.  Richland Center is a vibrant and growing community looking for an innovative, empowering and proactive municipal leader.  As a key representative of the City, the successful candidate will be understanding and compassionate of Richland Center as a diverse and unique community.

Richland Center is one of Wisconsin’s great small Cities located in the heart of the beautiful Driftless Region in southwest Wisconsin.  Richland Center is nestled in the Pine River valley and is approximately 1hr 25min from LaCrosse – WI, Madison – WI, and Dubuque, Iowa.  Richland Center is the county seat and the center of Richland County’s commerce, industry, government, entertainment, and healthcare.

As a community that must continue to adapt and reinvent itself, Richland Center values and celebrates its culture and traditions while planning for and embracing its future.  Tourism in Richland Center is thriving and is known for outdoor attractions like kayaking, trout fishing, and biking, as well as historical attractions like being the birth place of Frank Lloyd Wright and the home of the first Civic Auditorium that was built in the State of Wisconsin.  The economy is anchored by a location of the fortune 500 Company – Rockwell International and large dairy producers Schreiber and Foremost Foods.  Richland Center also has a strong healthcare and education system.

The City has 32 full-time and 10 part-time employees.  These employees are a part of the Public Works, Police and Fire, Park and Recreation, and Administration Departments.  The City is also responsible for the Brewer Public Library, airport, and cemetery.   The annual City budget is approximately $5 Million.  The City is financially sound with numerous growth opportunities.

The ideal City Administrator will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in public administration (Master’s preferred) or a closely related field
  • At least six years of increasingly responsible management experience in an executive position such as department head, assistant manager, city manager or administrator.
  • A strong background in budgeting/municipal finance and personnel management
  • A high level of integrity with open and positive communication skills
  • Experience with collaborative styles and consensus building
  • Knowledge in TIF and grant writing is a plus
  • A history of stable tenures in previous positions

The City Administrator is appointed by the Mayor and eight-member Common Council. Starting salary range: $70,000-$85,000 plus health, retirement, and other fringe benefits.

Employment: Full Time City Clerk/Treasurer

The City of Richland Center, Richland County, WI is accepting applications for a City Clerk/Treasurer to manage the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office, Human Resources functions, maintaining official records, manage Elections, City insurance policies, budgeting, grant applications and administration, tax collection, state reporting, TIF districts, accounting, project management, and responsibilities as set forth by State Statutes and City ordinances.  This is a vital management position requiring experience in all the above areas as well as the ability to work independently, plan and organize activities.

Successful applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, accounting, business administration or related field and a minimum of three years of municipal government experience.  Supervision experience is preferred.
