Richland Area Crime Stoppers

Take a Bite Out of Crime

P: 608-647-CLUE (608-647-2583)

Crime Stoppers is an organization that involves the public, the media and the police in the fight against crime. It offers anonymity and cash rewards to persons who furnish information leading to the arrest of criminal offenders and to the capture of fugitives.

Who administers the program?

The Crime Stoppers Board of directors is comprised of concerned citizens of the Richland County area who volunteer their time to oversee the program. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization and is funded entirely through donations from the public.

How does Crime Stoppers Work?

When a call is received by Crime Stoppers, it is logged with the date, time and a summary of the caller’s information. Calls on the Crime Stoppers tip line are not recorded.  Callers are furnished with a code number that is used in subsequent contacts so that a callers name is not important. In this way, Callers may remain anonymous with no pressure to reveal their identity and still collect their reward. The information supplied by the caller is then forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation. If the caller’s information results in the arrest of a suspect or the apprehension of a fugitive, arrangements are made so that the person can receive his/her reward in Cash while continuing to remain anonymous. The board of directors approves rewards based on information presented by the police coordinator.
