BIKE RODEO

RICHLAND CENTER POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HOLD BIKE RODEO

Bicycles are considered “vehicles” on Wisconsin roadways. That means bicyclists must obey the rules of the road like any other vehicle and must be treated as equal users by all other vehicles.

Bicycles are particularly vulnerable among road vehicles. There are several simple things bicyclists can do to greatly reduce their risk of crash, death or injury.

The best way is to avoid common bicyclist errors or to be prepared to avoid common motorist errors committed around bicyclists.

Chief Lucas Clements advises that the Richland Center Police Department in cooperation with the Richland School District, Cairns State Farm Insurance Agency, Culver’s Restaurant, and Boy Scout Troop 81, will be hosting a Bicycle Safety Course on Wednesday, August 15th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Jefferson Elementary School playground.

In addition to the Bicycle Safety Course, Chief Clements adds that after the course, Officers will have tokens to hand out to bicyclists they see in our community demonstrating proper bicycle safety. The tokens will be redeemable at Culver’s Restaurant for a treat.

Chief Clements would like to thank Cairns State Farm Insurance Agency and Culver’s Restaurant for their generosity in supporting this effort to help promote positive reinforcement for bicycle safety in our community.

The bicycle safety course is open to the public, ages 5-18 years old at no charge. Attendees are asked to bring their bicycle and bicycle helmet the day of the event.
